Competitive Landscape

The NFL is the most prominent American football league, with a global audience. In recent years, the league has faced scrutiny over its racial diversity. As of 2022, 58.1% of NFL players are Black, while only 38.6% of head coaches are Black. This disparity is in contrast to the overall racial makeup of the United States, where Black Americans make up 13.6% of the population.

Value Proposition

The NFL’s commitment to racial diversity has been inconsistent. While the league has made progress in increasing the representation of Black players, it has struggled to attract and retain Black head coaches. The league’s Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview at least one minority candidate for head coaching vacancies, has been criticized for being ineffective. The NFL has also been criticized for its handling of racial incidents, such as the 2020 George Floyd protests.
